Open Cycling Sandals

We know that it’s cold out, but it’s nice to think about warm summer days when we can go cycling again. And maybe also think about when this pandemic will be behind us. The day will come.

So let’s talk about cycling sandals. When we scout our tours, we wear our Keen cycling sandals. They are very versatile. For colder days we wear them with wool socks and toe covers and on warmer days we wear cycling socks – or just go barefoot. If we get stuck in a rainstorm, the shoes can dry out really quickly. You can even wear them with waterproof socks on a rainy day.

Cycling sandals provide versatility and can keep your feet cooler on a hot day. On the downside, you can get some pretty funky tan lines.

We know of two cycling shoes currently on the market.

Shimano makes bike parts, but they also make a nice cycling sandal. We have a pair. Their sandals are open toed – great when you want to show off a fresh pedicure, but they can leave your toes a bit exposed.

Exustar makes a cycling sandal too. We haven’t tried these, but they do get decent reviews.

Our favorite cycling sandals are our Keens. We like the more closed toe box and the adjustable ties. They are comfortable and don’t really look like a cycling shoe, so we can wear them when we are exploring during a bike stop. The only problem is that Keen no longer makes them!

A friend told us that he has been communicating with Keen. They might decide to make them again if there is enough interest. If you are interested in buying Keen cycling sandals, we recommend that you email them at info@keenfootwear.com and request that they start producing the KEEN Men’s and Women’s Commuter 4 Cycling Sandal again. We just emailed them.
