Using and uploading to Google Photos

We created a Google Photo Album for each of our tours. You can upload and share pictures you take on the tour in this album. We will upload any pictures we take during the tour here as well. The album is set so that you can contribute pictures also, so please upload any pictures you want to share with the group. Please only upload photos you think others in the group would enjoy seeing. This photo album will exist on Google as long as Google Photo albums exist.

If you don’t have a Google ID of some sort, you will only be able to view the pictures. You need a Google ID to add pictures.

There are three ways to add pictures, depending on your current setup:

  1. You have the Google Photos app installed and you use it to backup all of your pictures:
    1. Click on our album link, then click on the  icon to choose the pictures you want to add.
  2. You have the Google Photos app installed and you DO NOT use it to backup your pictures:
    1. This is unfortunately the most complex scenario and does not work the same all the time.  One way to solve this is to delete the Google Photos app and then use method 3 below, but you probably don’t want to do that.
    2. One thing that seems to consistently work is the following:
      1. After you do this the first time, you can just go back to the “Pics to Share” album you created in step “v” and continue from there.
      2. In the Google Photos app, click on the “+” icon on the top right.
      3. Click “Album”
      4. Click “Add a title” and enter something like “Pics to share”
      5. Click the  icon and choose the pictures you want to add.
      6. Click “<” on the top right to return to the main Google Photos page.
      7. Click “Collections” then “Albums” and choose our photo album.
      8. Click “Select Photos” and choose the pictures you want to share with the group (the ones you put in the “Pics to share” album), then click “Add” on the top right.
      9. This works because Google Photos lets you add pictures from your local device to a photo album you created, but it will not let you add photos on your local device to a shared album.
  3. You do not have the Google Photos app installed:
    1. Click on our album link above. It will open the album in a web browser window and this will appear on top of the album.
    2. Do not install the Google Photos app!  This will actually make it harder to share pictures and potentially start to back up ALL of your photos to Google.
    3. Click on the  icon and choose the pictures you want to add.
